Experts divided on Freedom to Buy
Following Labour's announcement of its “Freedom to Buy” initiative, an expansion of the mortgage guarantee scheme, Newspage asked experts for their views, which can be found below. Some embraced it, others were critical. One said: “This is a promising first offering from Labour and it is the permanent nature of the Freedom to Buy guarantee that could make all the difference, rather than having availability over a set period of time.” But a second added: “This policy is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.” A third said: “This is a rehashed Tory policy under a Labour banner." A fourth concluded: "Labour are effectively promoting something that already exists and isn't used."
