Inflation falls to 2.3% - but how's business for you?

Inflation rose by 2.3% in the 12 months to April 2024, down from 3.2% in the 12 months to March, according to official data published this morning. Borrowers are there however so many buyers are waiting to find a property but sellers are slow to market as they are fearful they will sell and not find somewhere. A base rate cut may be just what the doctor ordered to kick start activity. With this announcement today, decisions forecast are all over the place which will add further uncertainty.

As a business finance broker I am seeing clients holding off projects that require funding until the cost of funding falls. The cost of funding impacts on the monthly repayments for new machinery and vehicles and also makes borrowing for working capital expensive. I think the high cost of finance is stifling expansion for many businesses.
