Should a General Election be called?

If the Conservative Party cannot agree to unite behind a leader and Prime Minister they should call a general election. This would on current polling mean that most of them would lose their seats and their incomes. This is why they will try and regroup around someone, potentially Rishi Sunak, and keep going for another couple of years. After all, Tory MPs have mortgages and school fees to take care of, so self-interest will as ever prevail.

The Conservatives have totally lost their way. The last general election was built around ‘getting Brexit done’ and silver-tongued, polarising rhetoric that didn’t come through post-election as very many actual policies or legislations that matched up to the promises made. A pure exercise in marketing fluff and PR. Even the Tories are getting sick of the Tories, so a general election will sharpen their senses, and hopefully those of the alarmingly quiet opposition parties too.

We absolutely need a General Election and we need it as soon as possible. Never has the word ‘omnishambles’ been more appropriate. While the Government try and figure out who’s doing what, the rest of us are left in freefall. Enough is enough.

A general election is absolutely the right course of action. Liz is the leader the conservatives internally chose, but she was not the leader that the country voted for. A general election will force both sides of the house to shape up or move on. Loony Liz needs to be replaced as quickly as possible.

We're now at a point where so many decisions have been made without the consent of the general public, that the results of the most recent general election have become irrelevant. Simply put, it's time to let the country decide. This government is disconnected from economic and political reality and has drifted away from what the people want.

It is the right time to let the public decide the future direction of the country. There has been so much change in recent years and we're no longer the same nation that we were in 2019. We need a Government that is equipped to deal the economy and we deserve the right to say who is up for that job.

We definitely need an election and we need it yesterday. Not only are thousands of small businesses like ours struggling to survive but household bills are going through the roof. This whole situation is an omnishambles and the current administration are not fit for purpose.

No, an election should not be called. The government made this mess and they should find a way to clear it up. Changing the figurehead won't change things. The system needs an overhaul. Currently people think that they vote for the PM but they don't, they vote for a party. Due to it being first past the post people's voices can be lost when areas are predominantly backing one party.

For the opposition to be successful in a vote of no confidence and so force a General Election, numerous Tory MP's would have to vote against the Government. The reality is they are not going to vote to be made redundant as they know the Conservatives couldn't possibly win an election right now. The Prime Minister certainly won't call an early election so we are stuck with the Tories for another couple of years. Their only chance to win the next election is to replace Liz Truss with someone capable now, so that they have enough time to win back the confidence of the public. But who will take the reins?

Allowing Truss to leave by way of election almost seems too kind. If that is the way to go let's break tradition and vote on a Saturday, specifically Saturday 5th November to send a message to these wannabe power whores that if you are not up to the job you will be axed.

Quite simply, yes, of course we need a general election. The current government is a total busted flush and we need some grown ups in charge with a mandate from the electorate to steer the ship through serious choppy waters.
