Retail sales fall 0.3% in December amid "a tough trading environment"
Retail sales volumes are estimated to have fallen by 0.3% in December 2024, following a small rise of 0.1% in November 2024, according to official data published this morning. While clothing and household goods performed well, food sales were especially weak. Looking at the quarter, sales volumes fell by 0.8% in Quarter 4 (Oct to Dec) 2024 compared with Quarter 3 (Jul to Sept) 2024 but rose by 1.9% compared with Quarter 4 2023.
