Inflation and your business or charity - February 2024

ended 19. March 2024

Inflation, specifically its effect on businesses and charities, will be all over the news tomorrow as the latest official data is published at 07:00. We've already had a lot of journalists asking us for businesses or charities that are still being negatively impacted by inflation, whether that's through reduced consumer demand (people having less to spend), reduced donations (people having less to give) or being impacted in other ways, e.g. higher raw material costs. If that's you, please tell us about it and we'll put you forward for the journalists to feature in their stories. Also let us know if you're happy to do radio and/or TV tomorrow as we have quite a few producers looking for interviewees.

Inflation and the resulting mis-management from the Bank of England by rising rates so high so fast has crippled the housing market. The increased mortgage rates have put millions of households on the brink and has seen massive spikes in insolvencies. Whilst everyone is expecting some positive inflation news on this print, it is likely the Monetary Policy Committee will hold the base rate, with the first reductions likely to be in May or June, so the economic torment will continue.

Is there anything that hasn't increased in price? As a charity we face increased costs for rent, insurance, running costs, hot meals for vulnerable families. There isnt a single cost that hasnt gone up painfully. Combined with a minimum wage increase and staff quite rightly requesting higher wages to pay their own increased bills. Families that rely on us have less money and our own funding becoming harder to come by, its a ticking time bomb waiting to go off.

Whilst Rishi Sunak coasts through to the election, the small business community is in turmoil.
With a budget consisting of hot air, consumers are still lacking the funds to spend with businesses like my own and that is having a knock on effect.
The money isn't out there and I don't know how this government can come back from this.
We need change and we need it now. Call the election.
