GPs to lose power to hand out sick notes
Under plans for a crackdown on Britain's ‘sick note culture’, GPs are to be stripped of their power to sign people off work.
In a speech today, Rishi Sunak will warn that a surge in people signed off sick with mental health conditions is placing ‘unsustainable’ pressure on the welfare budget.
Health experts including GPs, HRs and business owners were asked for their thoughts on this announcement - and whether stripping GPs of their power will simply mean more people will feel pressured to go back to work when they are not in a fit mental state to do so?
