The potential increase in National Insurance contributions for businesses, as hinted by PM Sir Keir Starmer, raises serious concerns for SMEs. While Starmer promises not to tax “ordinary working people,” small business owners are ordinary working people. Unlike large corporations, SMEs could face significant hardship, where a hike in NI contributions could be the tipping point between profit and loss. For us, every increase has a direct impact on job security, wages, and survival. If the government is committed to fostering growth, it needs to stop overlooking small businesses and realize that policies like these stifle, not support, our success.
