Chris Billinghurst

Founder
The House of Upcycling
Chris Billinghurst is an eco entrepreneur and founder of the UK and Ireland's leading independent authority for professional upcycling: The House of Upcycling. With previous careers in marketing and IT, Chris always maintained her interest in art and interior design and launched her first online eco interiors platform in 2008. GDUKStyle promoted the use of vintage, upcycling and hand made items for the home and offered sourcing and design guides to help people make their homes greener and more individual places to live. After winning a prestigious prize at Decorex in 2013 for a mood board design celebrating the combination of contemporary and heritage design, Chris launched an eco interiors advice hub, Eco Chic Interiors, in 2011. Eco Chic Interiors hosted workshops and was a unique concept for its time, offering economic design solutions focusing on wellbeing and eco friendly choices. Launching #UpcycledHour in 2014, the first and most successful Twitter hour of its kind, with the platform's elevation to an industry authority by 2019, Chris rebranded the organisation to become The House of Upcycling. Working with a small team who help support the House of Upcycling members and promote the benefits behind the beauty of professional creative reuse, Chris continues to educate and inspire professional and amateur designers alike and introduce them to the economic, environmental, ethical and aesthetically unique world of professional upcycling for interiors.
