Lancs indie business ‘fighting’ big chains for sales amid cost of living crisis

In 2019 I developed allergies meaning I could no longer use my usual hair care or make up products.  After seeking advice I turned to natural non toxic products and this opened up a world of new products. I soon started making environmentally-friendly changes at home and became amazed at what sustainable product alternatives were out there yet no one knew about them.  That’s when I decided to launch The Eco Friendly Living Co, a one stop shop of eco-friendly products where I could shout about the benefits of the products to us and the planet. Our aim with the website is to encourage families to ditch the plastic and switch to more sustainable products from our range of easy eco swaps.

One in 7 high street shops in the UK are currently empty, that’s a serious decline from 2012 when just one in 10 stood empty. With the high street struggling, most people who shop on them are favouring to put empty shops to good use with pop ups from charities, local businesses or communities to keep the high street vibrant and alive. Pop up shops can reinvigorate the high street by opening up more affordable places for entrepreneurs and local businesses, which in turn will re-energise local economies, utilise a vacant high street premises and help landlords meet property costs. They also give small businesses the chance to be a part of the high street. The internet, technology and coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we shop and unfortunately the high street hasn’t responded. The trip into town needs to be worthwhile in just the same way as the cinema offers a better movie experience than TV.&nbsp; The Small Business Pop Up offers an exciting and engaging shopping experience for consumers whilst providing vital support for the small businesses involved.&nbsp; The high street is generally unaffordable for small businesses but our business model allows for them to be prime position on the high street but at a fraction of the cost and with minimal risk. It allows businesses to grow their brand, gain repeat customers in the local area and make those vital sales at a time when a lot of other businesses are struggling. The Small Business Pop Up will open on Friday 17th June for 4 weeks in the old Clintons cards shop on Market Walk and will house 20 local businesses for the full 4 week period with extra businesses displaying their wares at the weekends.
