Due to the rapid advancement in artificial intelligence (AI), many publicly-available AI models can effectively answer online ability tests for recruitment. Traditional verbal reasoning tests are the most vulnerable, and our research shows that the most powerful models now outperform most graduates. <img src="https://cdn.newspage.media/production/company/2394/files/691618354bb9e53e167349e85fa4e6d1d1ead310fd3833cec10ca5a59c39fe824e154fe430f5ab1cd3037c8e599b6c100db23634b74f148d7583a78639c2bc88.png"> The graph shows that GPT-4, the most powerful language model currently available, outperforms the average graduate by 20 percentile points, putting it in the top 30% of graduates. This is sufficient to pass the vast majority of graduate scheme applications, rendering verbal reasoning tests obsolete.&nbsp; In addition to being frighteningly accurate, these AI models were also able to answer verbal reasoning questions extremely quickly, far faster than any human. As a result, AI not only increases the probability of success but also allows human users to complete more tests per unit time, enabling them to apply for even more jobs.&nbsp; Given that these AI models are both widely available and easily accessible, these findings require the psychometric testing industry to rethink its approach to assessment, and organizations should be extremely cautious when using traditional ability tests for recruitment purposes. &nbsp;<blockquote>AI is making online ability tests obsolete</blockquote>
