Small UK firms who took part in a scaling programme gathered at the Westminster event 9 June 2023: Keisha Shah, founder of a Milton Keynes-based children’s educational brand Teddo Play, attended a special afternoon reception at the House of Lords on Thursday, to mark the completion of a micro business scaling programme.&nbsp; The event brought together small business owners from across the country, who were part of <a href="https://smallbusinessbritain.uk/">Small Business Britain’s</a> ‘Small and Mighty Enterprise Programme’ – a programme that helps supercharge Britain’s smallest firms in these challenging times.&nbsp; <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/keishashah">Keisha</a> has been a business mentor for the past two cohorts of the Small and Mighty Enterprise Programme, and said, “it was a fantastic event and to meet so many of my mentees in person was truly special. Could small online retailers save the UK High Street?

Having only launched in December 2019, a small Milton Keynes business, with the help of its customers, has already funded hundreds of local language books to children from low-income communities around the world through the charity, <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.roomtoread.org">Room to Read</a>.For wife and husband team, Keisha and Amit Shah of the award-winning Milton Keynes-based children's education brand <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.teddo-play.com">Teddö Play</a>, choosing the international children's learning charity, Room to Read, as their charity of choice, was an easy and logical decision to make. Keisha says:<blockquote>“I truly believe in giving back to our world community in any way possible. Despite being a self-funded small business, we have supported the UK economy in our own small way by remaining fully 'made in the UK', but when it comes to children's education, we believe everyone around the world needs the chance to learn. Given our passion for education and nurturing a lifelong love for knowledge in children, there was no doubt that Room to Read was going to be our first choice of charity to partner with. As the appetite to shop locally and support local businesses grows, Teddö Play® with its Award-Winning Educational Packs for children 2-14 years old, is taking part in the first-ever Made in UK Day on Tuesday 9 March 2021. The Made in UK Day campaign has been created to celebrate 10 years since ex-retail buyer Kate Hills started the Make it British blog to champion all the wonderful products that are made in the UK. Since its launch 10 years ago, the Make it British site has been visited by more than 6.5 million people looking to buy UK-made products and search for UK manufacturers. This year alone has seen a 68% increase in enquiries since the UK left the EU’s single market and customs union. UK manufacturing is currently worth £192 billion to the UK economy and employs 2.7 million people. More than 65 million people live in the UK and if everyone bought just one item made in the UK worth £20 on Made in UK Day it would be worth £1.3billion. Consumers can get involved in the campaign by pledging to buy something that is made in the UK on 9 March and asking their favourite brands and retailers what, if anything, that they sell is made in the UK. They are also being encouraged to share pictures of products that they have bought, or own, that are made in the UK on social media using the hashtag #madeinukday
