The government have announced that energy support for many small businesses will cease in April and only a select few will get any support at all. Now that energy is quickly becoming the second largest expense, how many will be financially viable in 2023 ? Smith &amp; Ellis (a multi-award-winning butcher) is now seriously considering downsizing to remain afloat due to electricity costs. Can we keep the lights on ? Not unless there is a significant change in energy costs - we have seen a three-fold increase in the best case, and a five-fold increase in the worst. Small retail employs millions of people in UK, how many are going to become a new social burden when those businesses close ?
