The Club's focus is on fellowship, and on service projects for the benefit of those less fortunate than ourselves. Directly, and through the worldwide Rotary movement, our Club cares for the local community and for the world through our international service, particularly in developing countries such as water purification and supply projects. Equally, Rotary cares for the people of the world through programmes such as the Rotary Foundation which among many other things provides scholarships for young people to study in other countries. Local projects we have worked on include Books4Home providing local needy children with books, Easter Egg and Christmas Hamper appeals, and Music in the Park a fundraising concert supporting local hospices.

Leicester Grammar School was the hub of excitement on Wednesday, 16th February 2023, as students from seven schools gathered to participate in the Rotary Technology Tournament 2023.&nbsp; The event, organized by the Leicester Rotary Club, saw 22 teams competing against each other in a friendly yet intense atmosphere. The Technology Tournament provided an opportunity for students to showcase their problem-solving skills and innovative ideas. Each team was tasked with designing and building a solution to a challenge that was revealed to them on the day of the tournament The students, ranging from various age groups, were equipped with the necessary tools and materials to bring their designs to life. The atmosphere was electric, with students working together in teams to bring their solutions to fruition. By two o'clock in the afternoon, each team had completed their project, and it was time for the judges to evaluate their work. The panel of judges, comprising experts from the technology industry, were impressed with the caliber of work produced by the students.&nbsp; After much deliberation, winners were identified in each age group.&nbsp; All the trophies for this year's event were awarded to teams from the host school, Leicester Grammar School. However, the Rotary Club of Leicester acknowledged that the real reward was the experience gained by every student, as they learned new skills, built connections with peers from other schools, and had fun in the process. The success of the Rotary Technology Tournament 2023 would not have been possible without the support of the sponsors, Sir Thomas White Charity, Pick Everard, and Hodges &amp; Drake, and the host school, Leicester Grammar School.&nbsp; The Rotary Club of Leicester was also supported by rotarians from Leicester DeMontfort and Leicester Novus. Howes Percival also provided invaluable background help. The Rotary Club of Leicester hopes that the Technology Tournament will inspire future generations of innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders in the technology industry.&nbsp; This year's tournament showcased the potential of young minds and highlighted the importance of investing in technology education for a brighter future. &nbsp;<blockquote>The Rotary Technology Tournament provides an excellent opportunity for young people to showcase their problem-solving abilities and creativity. Leicester Students Showcase Innovative Solutions at Rotary Technology Tournament 2023

The Rotary Club of Leicester held Music in the Park, a charity concert, on Saturday 11th June to help raise funds for three charities. Established approximately twenty years ago, Music in the Park is an annual concert providing a fabulous evening of music and fireworks in front of the wonderful Wistow Hall. This year's concert saw approximately 1,000 people enjoying a fabulous summer evening with music from Hathern Band and The Old Boy Network - A 5-piece live band performing classic tracks from the 60s and 70s. The evening finished with a spectacular firework display set to the Dr Who theme.&nbsp; The concert raised approximately £10,000 for three charities, LOROS (hospice), Rainbows Hospice, and the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society. Scott Gallacher, President of the Rotary Club of Leicester, said:&nbsp; "We are incredibly grateful that the people of Leicestershire turned out in force to help raise funds for three fantastic charities." LOROS Hospice is a local charity, and every year they care for over 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Rainbows Hospice cares for hundreds of families every year who have a child or young person with a serious or terminal illness. The Ectodermal Dysplasia Society is a charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of people whose lives are affected by Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED).&nbsp; The Rotary Club of Leicester is one of the oldest and largest Rotary Clubs in the United Kingdom. Leicester Rotary’s Music in the Park at Wistow raises £10,000 for Charity

The Rotary Club of Leicester was delighted to be able to support Schola Cantorum – a four-part liturgical choir of 35 students at English Martyrs’ School.English Martyrs Catholic School is a coeducational Roman Catholic secondary school and sixth form located in Leicester, England. And the school choir includes a high proportion of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.The club donated to enable the choir to participate in a joint Choral Evensong with the cathedral choir at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, on Wednesday 23rd March 2022.The Rotary Club is an active supporter of youth activities in Leicester and felt that it was important to support what was a fantastic opportunity for children from the Beaumont Leys area of Leicester to visit Oxford University.During their visit, the children were able to tour the cathedral and its organ and song school, then meet and perform with the cathedral choristers.Rtn. Leicester Rotary Club helps local school choir to Oxford

<h2>The Rotary Club of Leicester recently hosted a Tea Party for 80 people at the Leicestershire County Cricket Club, which raised £2,600 for charity.&nbsp;</h2>Organised by Diana Esho and Tara Pankhania, the tea party raised funds for two fantastic causes, End Polio and the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society. The event was also used to recognise and celebrate International Women's Day.&nbsp; This year's theme for International Women's Day was #BreakTheBias, which the two guest speakers have achieved in many ways. The key speakers were:<ul><li>Ms Mehmooda Duke MBE DL, High Sheriff of Leicestershire, former Chair of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, former president of the Leicestershire Law Society, and the founder of Moosa-Duke solicitors.</li><li>Leicester Businesswoman of the Year 2015 and 2017, Mrs Leanne Bonner-Cooke MBE, who was initially an accountant before transitioning into IT and founding her own business.&nbsp;</li></ul> Both gave inspiring talks about their journeys to 'break the bias'. End Polio Now is Rotary's campaign to eradicate polio. And Rotary's Eric Hall explained that when Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, there were 350,000 cases of polio in 125 countries every year. Today, polio cases have been reduced by 99.9 percent, with just two countries affected by wild poliovirus. As a result, to date, Rotary has helped prevent 18 million people worldwide from being paralysed from polio. In addition, the Rotary Club President Scott Gallacher gave an emotional speech about how he discovered his children were affected by Ectodermal Dysplasia. And why he became involved as a trustee of the Ectodermal Dysplasia Society. The Ectodermal Dysplasia Society is a charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of people whose lives are affected by Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED).&nbsp; Given its success as a fundraiser and as a great social event, the Rotary Club of Leicester plans to hold another Tea Party next year. Having been cancelled for the last two years due to the pandemic, the event's future was in doubt following the unfortunate closure of the Wigston Rotary Club. However, with the help of former Wigston club members Rob Bowman and Tim Alton, the Rotary Club of Leicester is pleased to confirm that Music in the Park will return this year. This year's Music in the Park is on Saturday 11th June 2022. Music will be provided by: Hathern Brass Band, a thriving First Section Brass Band based in Leicestershire with more than 140 years of history, delivering a 'last night of the proms' type event, and The Old Boy Network - A 5-piece live band performing classic tracks from the 60's and 70's.
