Variable and tracker mortgages

Journalist: Connie Dimsdale, The i newspaper

Hi, I'm looking for personal stories of people on variable or tracker mortgages who have been hit by the latest base rate increase.

Please get in touch if there's anyone you might be able to put me in touch with.

It's for tomorrow's paper so would need to speak to someone by around 6pm this evening.

Thanks!

I have received several phone calls today from clients currently on tracker mortgage ranging from 0.5% above the base rate to 1.48%, the majority of the clients wish to remain on these rates as they are still currently lower costing than if they switched to a fixed at 5% or 6%. A tracker is still a more favourible option for most clients, especially if they feel that rates are not going to increase much further. Expectations are that the base rate could still go up by another 1.5% at its peak, this is much lower than the 6% tipped whilst Truss was still in power, i think by christmas we will see that peak hit. We are also seeing fixed rates drop, with 1 lender announcing a drop of 1.3% on certain fixed products, these clients that have taken a tracker should be able to fix on a cheaper rate lower than the 5 or 6% offered over the last 2 months. Hopefully some stability is just around the corner
