What's the snow day policy in the UK?

Morning,

Thousands of workers will be facing a blanket of snow this morning and may not be able to venture into work.

What's the snow day policy in the UK? Am I legally entitled to a day off if it snows?

If I can't get into work because of the snow, will my wages be docked?

Will I get paid if my work is shut?

Will I have to take it as a holiday day if I can't get into work?

What if my child's school is shut and I can't get child care?

Common sense needs to be applied however it doesn't grow in everyones garden! In the UK we get panicked at the first sight of snow and it isn't as though it hasn't happened before.
Employers need to have policies in place for general weather or travel disruption so both employer and employer have the same expectations.
So here is something for you to ponder - How do small business owners cope with a snowstorm? They snowball their resources and keep pushing forward.

Lawyers and law firms love a snow season - they get to write articles about snow days and the law (tldr: there's none), contracts and legislation that doesn't apply. It's all tosh. Why not just be a reasonable employer and if someone asks to work from home because their kid's school is closed, let them, or heck even give them a day off. Businesses sometimes need to stop being a Dickensian character and have a little heart. (Ps not legal advice šŸ˜€)
