Sky News request: How much is GTA 6 going to cost?

GTA 6 will be available for pre-order on Thursday, but lots of people still want to know how much it's going to cost.

Its makers still haven't confirmed the price, so I'm looking for gaming analysts to tell me what they think it will cost and why for a piece in the Sky News Money blog.

I think everyone is assuming GTA 6 has to be £80 because of the scale of it, but I'm not sure it is that simple.

If the reported billion-dollar spend is anywhere close, Rockstar could justify charging at the very top end. The only real comparison for that level of money is Star Citizen, but that is a completely different, community-funded model.

The bit people might be missing is GTA Online. GTA 5 made ridiculous money after launch because the online world became the real revenue engine. So yes, I can see a £70-£80 base game, especially with premium editions on top. But I can also see Rockstar keeping the standard version closer to normal pricing if GTA Online is there from day one.

They may decide the smart move is not to squeeze every pound out of the box price, but to get as many players in as possible and monetise the next decade.
