The government has previously said the number of people receiving PIP has risen rapidly and is becoming financially unsustainable, which is why it has been looking at reforms to the welfare system. There are several reasons for this - allegedly general worsening of the UK population's health, and long-term effects from the pandemic.

PIP is relied on by millions of people to cover their daily living costs. These are people who are living with conditions that prevent them from living and working as normal - it's not an 'out of work' benefit, it is for people who are considered disabled or to have a debilitating condition. The UK's welfare system is designed to provide support to people who aren't able to work because of health or other factors, and it's really important this safety net is there so people know they will be OK and protected in the event that something happens to them.

Being myself disabled with a business that supports disabled peoples opportunities to work and progress in the workplace, I'm conflicted.

This mis communication 'noise' from the media, Government, MPs around welfare is fuelling so much fear. PIP is a disability, not work benefit, and we are aware of the additional cost of living disability brings. As such by addressing disability needs, PIP enables people to access work.

However, 37.5 million working age adults in England and Wales, only 3.7 million PIP claimants. The increase alegidly, coming from those with mental ill health. There are many factors incl. changing socialtle attitudes, capacity and skills of and who is assessing people for PIP.

As a disability benefit, PIP IS so important, to reduce disability aspects, which limit productive and positive work/life opportunity and experience (care, mobility needs etc.). How we define disability (the DDA 2010) needs addressing. NOT, removing/reducing PIP from those who need it.
