Making local news local again

ended 29. May 2026

More and more of you have been asking whether we can get your views on local government, politics, councillors, council decisions and community events into the news — and that’s what we’re going to start doing from today.

Our business-focused news stories are already running across local, national and trade media daily, but we’re now working closely with the UK’s major news publishers to boost their local government and social/community news content.

As a result, you’ll now start to receive News Alerts asking you for the things that matter to you in your area, whether relating to local government, councils or the local community.

So if you have an axe to grind in your local area, we will help grind it.

Equally, if something great is happening in your area, whether a charity event or some other feel-good story, or indeed anything newsworthy, we'll get it covered.

The media have finally worked out that, if they want to keep local people engaged with their news sites, they need to give a voice to local people.

Paying Newspage subscribers (Premium, Platinum, Editor) will be able to respond to all these News Alerts as normal but, if you’re a free subscriber, you can contribute to unlimited alerts relating to your area by upgrading to the Politics subscription, which costs just £2.99 a month. Just upgrade from the Settings section of your desktop Newspage.

With your help, we plan to change local news journalism for the better.

Ps. If you have any stories that you think need covering in your local area NOW, respond to this alert and tell us all about it. You could be in the local newspaper over the weekend.
