ITV News is looking to interview someone who runs a business who will be affected by the national strikes on Wed 1 Feb be they the school strikes, rail strikes, university strikes or a combination of all of them. The school strikes mean I will have one child with me at work doing online school work tomorrow, whilst the other child is in school preparing for his first GCSE-level exam the day after the strike - for whom the school is opening specifically. Due to the disruption that will be caused by the rail strikes tomorrow, I am also driving to a meeting the day after to be assured I will get there on time… or at all. The whole week is dominated with working around the various strikes which makes for a struggle in getting everything done as normal. Being a small business is hard enough right now without haven’t to keep adding more and more pressures like this.

The company utilises the services of the nationwide logistics company Parcelforce(part of Royal Mail). Due to the continued strikes of Royal Mail through the month of December, growth was significantly hampered causing loss of revenue and missing the projections promised to shareholders. Alternate providers like DHL were not as efficient as Parcelforce.

Hi, I am a HR Consultant and several of my clients have spoken of concerns of staff not able to attend work due to the strikes, with many businesses suggesting employees are being kept in the dark by schools who have yet confirmed if schools will be closed. This disruption will mean many workers will be wanting to work from home, however this isn’t possible for many roles and other workers having to take unpaid time off, during a financial crisis.
