Have agents/brokers seen an increase at all in younger people buying bungalows to help them get on the property ladder or get more for their money?

Bungalows seem to always demand a higher asking price per square foot as older, more affluent people, aspire to them for mobility and comfort concerns. Younger borrowers who cannot afford traditional housing certainly won't be able to afford bungalows.

Bungalows have traditionally been more expensive to buy due to the lack of new build bungalows coming to the market that are privately owned and not those sold via shared ownership schemes. I think Bungalows are ideal for those looking to spend money on improving their properties as they are normally sold on large plots and have larger floor space. I think younger people are more open to bungalows as they can provide great space to convert to the popular open-plan living.

I have had a few bungalows sold recently where you would have traditionally thought retired couples would be the main target market, however both have been sold to younger first time buyers, eage to get on the property ladder and at a reasonable price for the local market. In both purchases the buyers were very muchinto the potential for development of the property, adding additional bedrooms and using the larger garden plot to extend the downstairs space. So they are able to secure a good value property initially, with the ability to develop in the near future - perfect plan!

I think if the right-priced property came along, in the right area, clients would be equally happy if it were a house or a bungalow. The only group I see actively searching for bungalows are those who are a little older and are concerned about future mobility issues, or those already struggling with their mobility.

For most of my younger clients looking to get on the property ladder, they are more concerned about how much lenders are willing to lend to them and whether monthly repayments are affordable as oppose to whether the property is a bungalow or not.
