Heathrow scraps 100ml liquid limit

ended 23. January 2026

Passengers at Britain's biggest airport, Heathrow, can leave liquids in containers up to two litres in their bags while going through security, after it finally completed the rollout of new high-tech CT scanners, the airport has announced.

Electronics such as laptops can also be left in luggage, while clear plastic bags for liquids no longer have to be used.

  • How much of a gamechanger is this for travel?
  • What will the consequences be?
  • Any other thoughts?

Responses this afternoon please.

It’s great to see Heathrow catching up with some smaller UK airports. A massive bugbear for many travellers, who can now take larger toiletries on holiday. The problem, for the time being, is they might not be able to get them home as many European destinations as slow to embrace new technology.
