Halifax House Price Index March 26

ended 07. April 2026

Tomorrow morning at 07:00, the Halifax is publishing its March 2026 house price index. Clearly, the dynamics of the property market have changed significantly over the past month, as Trump's war with Iran has sent swap and mortgage rates soaring. What's your view on demand and transaction levels in March and how optimistic are you about the residential property market in the months ahead? Could the current level of mortgage rates wipe out any chances of house price growth this year and, in the same breath, does it offer an opportunity for first-time buyers to haggle hard and shave a lot off the asking price (even offsetting the additional cost of borrowing)? Any other thoughts on the state of the residential property market at present, and what you're seeing on the ground, send them across by 10pm tonight.

Just as the start to the year was looking favourable for house price growth, the US war with Iran will likely put pay to that with the sudden surge in interest rates ,especially if this continues into the summer and beyond.
Will potentially make it a buyers market, and why not put use the opportunity to put in a cheeky offer or two and gauge the motivation and needs of the vendor
