Got a Story? Drive the News

ended 13. December 2022

Here’s a tip for you: Whatever you’re working on now could be turned into a major news story.

So, if there's anything you think might make a story in your industry, whatever the hell that is, pop your thoughts below, we’ll have a look at it and if we think it’s a goer, we’ll shoot it off to the media.

Boomshakalaka, that’s you and your business in the media, resulting in surging sales and mucho moolah.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Artisans and creatives – Maybe you make something unique or your personal journey took you from something completely different to what you are creating today. The media loves those stories.
  • Or how about you mortgage brokers – a lot of those new product emails you get from lenders are stories. Rates going up from a big lender, for example, or a new green mortgage blah blah, etc. etc. Those are all story material.
  • Then there’s you lawyers - any interesting cases you're working on (can be anonymised, of course). Or any cases ongoing that the media should be covering but aren't, we can help you make them break through that media barrier.
  • Accountants and actuaries - keep staring at your feet. We'll come to you later.

Remember: you lot are the ones with the intel on the ground and that intel can drive stories. We want your intel and that way we can drive the goddam news as well as hijack it.

Satisfaction coach Felicity Pryke is thrilled to launch a unique collection of corporate well-being workshops, based on her philosophy of living a happier, healthier, more satisfied life you don’t need to escape from.

“It’s easy to say to those unhappy at work, ‘get another job’, but that’s short-sighted and causes unnecessary disruption for employee and employer. Most people just want their current job to be more pleasant and to feel appreciated for what they do.”

“This doesn’t just apply to high-flyers. A sense of purpose is essential to a happier life, and everyone’s job should feel more important than just paying the bills."

"Businesses need to get past the idea that investing in their staff impacts the bottom line. It isn’t a waste of time or money, and they reap the benefits in the long run."

Change the industry for self-employed and creative industry workers. OK so their income is not the same every month, but it is the same every year. Streamlining processes at banks have effectively discriminated against those on variable pay structures. They now need to look at specialist lenders who charge higher rates and fees Fair? No.
Yes, the arts are not the normal type of work role, but why shouldn't they get the same type of treatment for their valid income? Are they not allowed to do anything but rent?

Here is an extract from a TSB email this morning. A further obstacle for self-employed and business owners looking for a mortgage. The self-employed and business owners have already had it difficult to obtain a mortgage, especially since the pandemic. This is now a mainstream lender making it harder, especially in the times of business profits being hit, cost of living crises and deposits levels being limited. It will be interesting to see if other lenders follow TSB’s new policy.

FROM TSB:
Loan to income for self-employed applicant
Maximum loan to income multiple for self-employed applicants is reducing from 5.00 times income to 4.49 times income.
