Gifts under pressure amid cost of living crisis

ended 01. May 2023

A Newspager who sells gifts has told us she has had her worst month since she started trading eight years ago. If you're a retailer, specifically that sells gifts and non-essential items, let us know how things are for you at present. It seems the cost of living crisis is hitting the gifts industry particularly hard, as people cut back on non-essential spending. Any thoughts, send them across by 08:00 tomorrow, as we will issue this story to the media Monday AM.

Use us or lose us has never felt so real as we ‘celebrate’ our worst month of sales in over 8 years of trading.
We survived a pandemic and the months that followed but this cost of living crisis has almost completely decimated everything we have worked so hard for.
The gall of the politicians heating their indoor pools is almost too much to take.
I’m trying to build savings, to pay in to a pension and put money aside for our tax return as well as just living day-to-day but something has to give.
Support your local small businesses because we might not be here for long.

It certainly is a turbulent time. Selling art supplies is a luxury and people are scaling back on spending and it is starting to show. We don’t know from one day to the next whether we will have any customers. Some days are hopeful, others soul destroying. Our online offerings have also been hit hard.
Conversely our face to face art classes have seen far less decline than you would think, as people still seem to want experiences over shopping, and the classes are a great way to escape problems for a few hours and are mindful.
We can only hope that lasts, as currently the classes are the only thing keeping us afloat, with outgoings up by over 70% and stock prices up by another 12-15% it’s very hard to stay positive, and even harder to earn a living. We are so grateful for those that value what we do and support us even during this current economic crisis.

"This UK Government has a duty to end the Money Laundering which British Citizens Suffer into #costoflivingcrisis!" #BoycottEurovision for #BritishSovereignty

"Boycott the #LocalElections for Systematic Change and a New Election Voting system!" In many countries, people are facing a cost of living crisis due to inflation, unemployment, and other economic factors. This can put pressure on individuals and families to find affordable gifts for special occasions such as birthdays or holidays. To alleviate some of the pressure, people can consider alternatives to expensive gifts, such as homemade crafts or experiences like a picnic or movie night. Shopping for deals or purchasing items second-hand can also help save money. It's important to remember that the sentiment behind a gift is often more valuable than the price tag. A thoughtful gesture, like a heartfelt letter or a small token of appreciation, can go a long way in showing someone you care. #LifeOnTheEdge
