Gender equality in the workplace: actions for employers

ended 11. August 2025

The Office for Equality and Opportunity along with the Women and Equalities Unit have today published a report outlining approaches that have been shown to improve outcomes for gender equality. The report includes actions employers can take to attract and recruit more women, as well as actions which will support the progression and retention of female staff, creating a more inclusive environment. Any thoughts on it, send them across.

It’s positive to see a report that’s taken the time to see what actually makes a difference, what might have potential and what is not working to improve gender equality.

There is a lot of work to do, including work that focuses on men, as male engagement is still a challenge. 41% of men in our research felt that inclusion would sort itself out without their input or it had already gone too far.

At the end of the day, it’s about looking at what makes for a workplace where people can perform, can bring their best version, and can move towards their potential.

The work is to remove the barriers to above, and that is about taking strategic action and including everyone, not about another event with flags, food and fun, because they don’t change the workplace reality for anyone and create cynicism which makes the effective work harder to land.

I'm all for more women in diverse roles and senior positions if they want it, everyone can climb the ladder as high as their talents will take them!
Please stop this nanny state from interferring with how businesses operate, it kills commerciality and will achieve nothing other than some big ticks in stats boxes.
