Experiences from the other side: Booking.com
Asking if any Newspagers use Booking.com or any other similar platform to rent out a spare room or B&B.
My understanding is that if someone books the host can have T&Cs which ask for an appropriate notice of cancellation. One contact is telling me that he asks for three days, bu on several occasions the guest has given him little or no notice they are not going to turn up.
Booking.com do not insist on taking card details from the guest so my contact has no way of getting the money back if a guest does not turn up. He's also had a malicious review posted by a guest who never paid and never turned up and he also had one guest set up a bank account with Halifax using the address of the studio flat he rents out. They were from Portugal and only stayed one night - so how they were able to open a bank account - goodness knows. Halifax has not been able to explain why.
