ended 02. December 2025

Journalists at the Daily Mail are looking for:

  • Experts who can provide tips on council tax band revaluations, in terms of who is likely to be successful, and how to boost your chances of success (following the mansion tax announced in the Budget)… or any case studies of people who have done it/anecdotes of when people have had big wins or when it has all gone pear shaped...
  • Landlords who are wither doing well in buy to let despite all the extra taxes and regulation of recent years; or landlords who were doing well, but think the extra 2pc income tax on rents will cancel out their profits. If you can help, respond to this news alert and ensure your mobile is on your Newspage.

You can only, formally, challenge your council tax band if you’ve lived in your property for less than six months, so if you’re a mover take this seriously. However, most councils will still allow an informal challenge, especially if there’s compelling evidence. Banding are based on 1991 valuations, even if your house wasn’t built then. You’ll need to use an inflation calculator that can be found online, to work out what your house would have been both then, using your current valuation. Once you have this figure you’ll be able to see if you fit in the correct banding or if you need to be revalued. Caution though, if you’re revalued you could go up a banding and pay more so only challenge if you’re certain of the outcome.
