Charity donations in 2024

Ahead of tomorrow's inflation data, a few journalists have approached us asking for views from charities on whether donations have improved as the cost of living crisis has eased and inflation slowly come down. With this in mind, how are things for you compared to 12-18 months ago when inflation was sky high? Are higher interest rates, meaning increased rents and mortgage payments, continuing to reduce people's ability to donate? What's happening on the ground? Any thoughts, send them across and we will issue them to the local national and third sector media tomorrow AM when the inflation data is published.

As inflation has fallen, the cost of giving crisis affecting so many charities has improved. Now that people have slightly more money in their pockets, we have noticed a definite pick-up in individual donations and are feeling optimistic for the rest of 2024. During the past few months, the feedback from the community is that they are keen to support us however they can. Regular monthly donations have dropped a little, but we are finding that these type of donations can be sporadic and may be paused for a few months during a tough financial period and then restarted again when finances allow. One fundraising area that has seen growth for us is where supporters organise their own fundraising events dedicated to Andy's Angels and our grief support. This also helps our small charity to reach a wider audience. Collaborating on fundraising events with other charities seems to be working well for us too, sharing the work load and accessing their supporters.
