Big bank customers can triple returns switching to top paying rivals

ended 04. November 2025

Savers looking for risk-free returns and easy access to their cash can make an extra £777 switching to a top paying easy access account compared to sticking with a similar account with a high street bank, Moneyfactscompare.co.uk analysis can reveal:

  • Savers who switch a £25,000 savings pot from a big bank’s easy access account to a top paying challenger available on moneyfactscompare.co.uk could earn an extra £777 in interest after 12-months.
  • With a typical high street bank’s easy access account offering an average rate of just 1.39%, a 12-month return of £347.50 on a £25k deposit is a loss of £602.50 in real terms after adjusting for inflation.
  • Instead, the top rates available through moneyfactscompare.co.uk can offer a greater return of £1,125.00 in a year, a real return of £175.00 after inflation.

What is your advice to savers? How important is shopping around for the best deals? Do some people just not know they could be losing money with their rate?

Shopping around is rule number one for savers. It can mean a big difference in interest rate gains, and it takes very little effort to find the high paying accounts.

I compare rates on dozens of different savings accounts every week and it's rare that a high street bank tops the charts. That means if you've traditionally popped along to your local big-name bank to open a savings account, you're probably going to need to change your habits, and start embracing online brands with names you might not have come across before. Of course, it's vital people check that any company they are going to deposit money with is registered with the FCA, and covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. But at a time of sustained high inflation, getting those top rates is crucial if you don't want your money to lose value.

Many people simply don’t realise how much their money is underperforming and a quick switch to a top-paying easy access account could earn them hundreds more with zero extra risk. Loyalty rarely pays when it comes to savings and it always pays to shop around.
