On Monday, Hunt confirmed a new investment zone in West Yorkshire, and has today announced three further investment zones in the West Midlands, East Midlands, and Greater Manchester.

These zones will help catalyze £3 billion in private investment and 65,000 new jobs. A further investment zone will be created in Wales in the region of Wrexham and Flintshire. This has been long awaited and is a fantastic outcome for small businesses up and down the country who will benefit from the investment.

I’m saddened to see that although Mr Hunt happily declares a freeze on alcohol duty, he does not see the need to support the many micro businesses who simply cannot afford to rent a space on our local high streets let alone make a space for themselves in this statement.
Gone and forgotten.

Jeremy Hunt promised an Autumn Statement that would "reward effort and work". He then announced a 6.7% pay rise for those on benefits, an 8.5% increase for pensioners, and a paltry £3.45 token gesture to the self-employed (much of which the Treasury will claw back anyway thanks to the fiscal drag of freezing personal allowance rates for six years). So much for rewarding effort and work.

As a developer, the improved planning system will instil confidence in the construction sector to tackle more projects. A faster and more robust process, providing full refunds for unsuccessful applications, will make development projects more efficient and viable. It's a good day for planning.
