A Dorset-based business has launched a children's book illustrated using beach plastic found on the Dorset coast-line. Just in time to celebrate Plastic Free July. 'One Planet' is a concious counting book aimed at children aged 0-5. A world's first for children's picture books - illustrated using beach plastic found on the Dorset coastline sends a powerful message which is present throughout. Each page is a visual treat that invites little ones to eagerly count whilst older children are intrigued to look closer to discover the hidden elements of litter.<blockquote>"The idea for 'One Planet' came to me last year when I fell pregnant with my first child. <ul><li>New figures showed a “spike” in household waste in the first year of the coronavirus pandemic.</li><li> The carbon impact of waste from Scottish households grew by 3.2 per cent in 2020, rising from 5.66 million tonnes CO2 equivalent, to 5.84 million tonnes.</li><li> To help tackle this surge, Dorset eco brand Moonie launched a Reusable Bin Liner to replace the need for single-use, plastic bin bags.</li></ul>The increase was revealed in Zero Waste Scotland’s latest Carbon Metric report, The carbon impact of waste from Scottish households grew by 3.2 per cent in 2020, rising from 5.66 million tonnes CO2 equivalent, to 5.84 million tonnes CO2 equivalent. To help tackle this surge, Dorset eco brand Moonie launched a Reusable Bin Liner to replace the need for single-use, plastic bin bags. Each Reusable Liner is handmade in Dorset using Eco PUL and can be machine washed or wiped clean. Reusable Bin Liner Facts: - Made from Eco PUL - the waterproof fabric has two layers - one of which has a layer of polyurethane which makes the product water-resistant. The polyurethance is made from renewable materials ( vegetable oil ) rather than mineral oil. The material also undergoes a unique process that permanently melt-bonds the waterproof film to the fabric without any toxic solvents. - Stronger than compostable Bin Liners - Seamless bottom to prevent leaks - Available in three sizes 15,30,80 litres - To use: when full, remove the liner, empty the contents (loose) into your wheelie bin and place the Reusable Liner back into your bin. If dirty, you can wipe clean or put into the washing machine at 40 degrees.
