Karmela Cosmetics founder Nechami Tenenbaum originally started her lipstick brand melting formulas in her microwave, mixing colors in her kitchen, and pouring lipsticks by hand. A professional makeup artist, she became frustrated with the chemicals in many of her favorite lipstick formulas and struggled to find a natural formula that was creamy, long-lasting, and highly pigmented.Today, three and a half years later, Karmela Cosmetics prides itself on high-quality formulas that remain poured by hand but has since expanded beyond its humble beginnings to connect with a lab, lipsticks sold globally, as well as prominent brand partners including IPSY, and features on Good Morning Arizona, FOX17, and more. Karmela is proudly cruelty-free (as certified by PETA &amp; The Leaping Bunny Program) and has quickly grown to an impressive status as a beauty brand that gives back through donating 10% of each lipstick sale to various women-related charities, including The National Breast Cancer Foundation, National Eating Disorder Association, The Endometriosis Foundation of America, and The Rapunzel Project. Karmela lipsticks are free from parabens, GMOs, phthalates, triclosan, petrochemicals, Synthetic Fragrances, and Talc.

From Kitchen Sink to Global Brand

Over this past year, the beauty industry was hit hard due to the global pandemic. Currently, we are seeing an industry rebound, as we get into our new daily routines. As trends continue to shift, consumers are looking, not only for products that perform well, but also for products that align with their lifestyles, with a focus on more authentic, cleaner products. As beauty trends continue to shift, I wanted to share 3 elements that consumers should look for which demonstrate that a brand is socially conscious, &nbsp;high-quality, and authentic. Additionally, it would be advantageous for brands to implement these ideas to expand their consumer reach and generate customer loyalty:1)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Clean beauty is definitely&nbsp;a trend these days but it goes beyond that. Over the past few years, the world has come to value the importance of living a healthier lifestyle. More recently, as COVID-19 has brought awareness to our mortality and overall health, consumers have begun to take a greater interest in the products they use on their skin, making sure to keep their skin healthy, from the outside- in, thereby shifting toward clean beauty products.2)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The importance of a brand having a social impact. COVID has caused consumers to be concerned about the larger society, how we’re all connected, and how our actions influence and affect each other. Consumers have shifted from a focus solely on the products themselves, to a larger picture of what the brand stands for, and how the brand gives back to others. We all want to be a part of something greater than ourselves, and through purchasing products from a socially conscious brand, it gives consumers the opportunity to obtain the products or services, while at the same time, contributing to society. As time goes on, purpose-driven brands will only continue to develop and become more popular.3)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The emergence of the lockdown has made brighter and bolder shades more popular. Before COVID, our best sellers were our more neutral lipstick shades. Currently, we are seeing a large increase in orders (about a 100% increase) of bright pinks and reds. I believe that this can be attributed to women attempting to increase their confidence, whether consciously or subconsciously.
