But good news is on the horizon for those looking to recruit: Glassdoor data reveals job hunting activity on the site reaches its yearly peak the week of valentines - with <a href="https://www.glassdoor.com/research/uk-best-places-to-work-2022/">job searches increasing 29 percent over a typical week</a> from 13 February. Workers are looking less for love and more for new job opportunities. To stand out from the competition, pay transparency is key; 75 percent of workers* say they would be <a href="https://www.glassdoor.co.uk/blog/pay-transparency/">more likely to apply for a job with a salary range</a> displayed in the listing. A Glassdoor study* of 2,000 people in full-time employment also reveals what job hunters of all ages are looking for from their next employer and what they see as the most significant challenges to securing their perfect role. Across all ages of workers, salary is the most important factor when considering where to work. However pay more crucial to older employees as 74 percent of those over 45 rated this as their #1 consideration compared to 48 percent of those under 25. &nbsp;Salary is closely followed by work-life balance, with 1 in 2 (52 percent) of UK workers of all ages considering this a priority when job hunting. Despite a shift towards remote working, location is still an important factor for 48 percent of job hunters - but this increases to 61 percent of those aged 45+. &nbsp;BIGGEST JOB HUNTING CHALLENGESTo attract talent employers must remove any hurdles job seekers might face. The Glassdoor survey also found the #1 challenge across all ages when job hunting is finding a relevant role that matches their skills and experience. And looking at the interview process itself, 1 in 5 (21 percent) said there were too many interview stages in their last job hunt and 18 percent struggled to get companies to respond to their application. &nbsp;<blockquote>The continued shrinkage of the UK’s labour market means that hiring will remain tough throughout 2023. <h2>Ahead of Halloween on Monday, Glassdoor has uncovered some chilling stats about being ghosted in the interview process.</h2><h3>Despite the continued tight labour market and many companies finding it difficult to hire, job seekers are finding themselves increasingly ghosted.</h3><ul><li>The share of interview reviews on Glassdoor that mention ‘ghosting’ has tripled (up 208%) since pre-pandemic (Feb 2020)</li><li>Candidates applying via recruiters report the most instances of being ghosted.</li><li>Job seekers who mention ghosting are nearly 5x more likely to rate their interview experience as negative than those who don’t mention ghosting.</li></ul>What can job seekers do to avoid being ghosted? Get the facts: Before the interview finishes, ask for details about the next steps of the hiring process and deadlines on when to expect an outcome so you know what to hear back. Follow up: On the same or next day of the interview send a note to each person you met with. Take the opportunity to reiterate why you think you would be a good fit for the role and your passion for the company. A final attempt: If you don’t hear from the hiring manager by the agreed deadline and there’s been no response to your first thank you, follow up with one last email. If there’s still no response, assume there has been a hold on the hiring process or the role has been filled. What should job seekers do if they have been ghosted? Keep professional: You may not have had a great experience but you won’t gain anything from bad-mouthing the company or hiring manager. With businesses across the UK struggling to hire enough staff, the economists at Glassdoor have discovered a new workplace trend that all employers and job seekers need to be aware of: job cuffing.'Cuffing season' may be best known in the dating world as the time when you settle down with or ‘handcuff’ yourself to a partner to see through the cold winter months. Before re-emerging in spring to decide whether to commit or leave the relationship for a summer of single fun. But Glassdoor research shows that cuffing is not just a dating phenomenon. In fact 'job cuffing' is about to hit this October - and companies, and job seekers, need to act quickly. Employers have been caught short as continued low employment rates coupled with record-high job vacancies means hiring is hard - and keeping hold of talent is vital.
