Tony Robinson OBE is known as The Micro Business Champion receiving the OBE for services to Small Firms in 2001. He has started and run his own businesses, with partners, for forty years. He has received three lifetime achievement awards for enterprise and multiple awards for enterprise support He has founded four national enterprise support organisations of which the most recent is The Micro Business Alliance, with organisations representing over 1.5 million micro business owners directly and 4 million indirectly. The Micro Business Alliance works with political leaders and senior civil servants to improve policymaking to ensure all startups, self employed people and micro business owners have the best chance to survive and thrive. He has campaigned for #PayIn30Days or less for thirty years. His proudest achievement over the last twenty years has been helping build the Yorkshire in Business Group of companies providing free support to enterprising people in the towns of the Yorkshire Coast. The Group has four buildings of workspace and workshops, two business cafe-bars, a department store of pop up shops, and a well being centre.

Two out of five business owners have money worries affecting their mental health. One out of three is in serious debt. Two out of three suffer from delayed payment and unfair payment terms and practices. A staggering nine out of ten women business owners feel that the Government does not support them.&nbsp; These are some of the shameful facts emerging from surveys published this week, including by Micro Business Alliance member Simply Business.&nbsp; Tony Robinson OBE, Co-Founder of the Micro Business Alliance, says, "We thought that self-employed people, freelancers and micro business owners (0-9 employees) were over the worst tragedy I've seen in my 30 years of campaigning for a level playing field for them. That tragedy was 3 million businesses being excluded from government income support during the pandemic. But it's worse now. Despite seven out of ten of us being optimistic about the future, the costs of doing business in the UK are totally out of control.&nbsp; We are waiting an average of 68 days for payment and suffer sky-high utility and comms costs. These costs, plus compliance costs, tax burdens and more, are NOT our fault. Enterprising people, particularly half a million start-ups, are really suffering.&nbsp; We can save this country - economy, employment, innovation, high streets and communities. We need to give them hope of a better tomorrow."&nbsp; Robinson says that "hope" comes from over 100 companies, business networks and membership bodies engaged with over 1.2 million micro businesses coming together to form the Micro Business Alliance. It's free to join, and its only aim is to confidentially work to improve Government and Opposition policymaking as it affects micro business owners.&nbsp; The Alliance is led by Ian Cass, CEO of the Forum of Private Business, and he has found Ministers, Shadow Ministers and senior Government officials willing to listen and learn. A recent Alliance event featuring Robinson's Be More Happipreneur Show was attended by the HMRC Director for Small Business, who bravely answered questions from a packed theatre of micro-business owners.&nbsp; Cass said, "We've only been going 5 months, but at least there's a chance now that the policymakers have the facts and the reasons why the 95% of all businesses - micro businesses - deserve a fairer and better deal. Judge us after a year at our event at The Happipreneur Festival in Scarborough.
