Local Mum, Debbie Binnersley is celebrating the second anniversary of the LS12 School Uniform Scheme which she set up as the children returned to school after the Covid pandemic. The scheme offers pre-loved school clothing to those who may be struggling to meet the costs of uniform pieces, local children's services and schools, as well as those wanting to do their bit to help save the environment. The scheme is currently run from Debbie's backroom at home but is likely to outgrow the space before long. Since the scheme started donations have come in from local schools who have donated lost property they don't have the space for, as well as families who donate items they no longer need. The power of social media has allowed the scheme to attract donations to pass onto families in the local community who might be in need of items including uniforms, shoes, coats and PE kits. &nbsp;<blockquote>I started the scheme mid-way through the Covid pandemic. I was getting the uniforms ready for the kids to go back to school when I realised that most of the items had hardly been worn, yet were too small for them. After spending a small fortune on new items, I began thinking there must be a better way. After the pandemic, not everyone had the cash to splash out on costly new uniforms, especially when they grow out of them so quickly. The night before the kids went back to school I started a Facebook page with a brief introduction to the scheme and it's taken off from there. We have had donations of generic uniforms as well as lots of logo/branded items for most of the schools in the area I have been working with some of the local schools and children's centres to help families get the items they need and will continue to do so as needed. The increase in requests over the past few months has shown that people are still struggling financially and with the increased cost of living yet to have a full impact, I can see things getting a whole lot busier in the next few months.</blockquote>
