RUGBY AGAINST CANCER PRESS RELEASE The Final Trek 2021 Fundraising Event Rugby Against Cancer are pleased to announce our 3rd and final ‘Trek’ Fundraiser. On Saturday 29th to Sunday 30th May 2021, 60 walkers will take on an 80-mile walk in a target of 32 hours. The walkers will begin outside of Guy’s Hospital Cancer Care Centre on Saturday morning, joined by members of Guy’s Hospital RFC – the oldest rugby club in the world, they will then cross the Capital before heading through Hampshire returning to Portsmouth Rugby Club to a hero's welcome. The walk will take them to a minimum of 12 grassroots rugby clubs on the way. Our fundraisers are from grassroots rugby clubs across the UK including Portsmouth, Havant, Gosport, Plymstock Albions, Tadley RFC, Truro, Saracens Amateurs, Harlequins Amateurs and Guy’s Hospital RFC. This fundraising event is being completed to help raise funds and much needed awareness for Rugby Against Cancer as in November 2020 we were officially a registered charity. We are not only excited to be able to take on the challenge, but we are looking forward to being able to give back to those that need support. Each walker has pledged to raise £250 before the event. About Rugby Against Cancer ● The Trek 2 Twickers 2020 raised a huge £19,000 which was split between ourselves and our nominated charity Breast Cancer Now. ● A Hampshire based charity who support grassroots rugby players and their immediate families dealing with cancer ● Rugby Against Cancer want to support those that need our help to make their situation a little bit easier to deal with. ● Rugby Against Cancer was founded by a Rugby player and 4 rugby players make up the committee/trustees. We personally know how important the rugby community and family is, and this is why we want to do our bit and help those within this amazing community. ● Cancer does not discriminate and can affect anybody, so we want to be there for those that need it. Be that rugby players who have been diagnosed with cancer, the family of rugby players or those that don’t play anymore but are still involved in the rugby community. ● Not only do we want to support this group of people, but we will support fundraisers and smaller cancer charities that need to raise awareness and funds to continue to do what they do. ● In 2019 we raised £26,620 for cancer charities in the UK through events throughout the year ● For more information, please visit www.rugbyagainstcancer.com or any of our social media channels; Instagram Facebook or Twitter
