What is your view of the 2024 mortgage market?

Hi, I’m writing a story for Mortgage Solutions about how mortgage brokers feel about 2024.

In particular, I’m looking for 300 to 350 words (in total) to cover the following:

  • What lessons have you learnt this year?
  • What have been the challenges for your business this year?
  • What changes or improvements have you made to your business this year?
  • What goals have you achieved with your business this year?

2024 mortgage market? It feels like planning a holiday in the UK—you’re hopeful for sunshine, but you’re packing a raincoat just in case.

This year, the biggest lesson has been adaptability. Clients now need brokers to be part financial adviser, part therapist, as we guide them through rising rates and affordability challenges. The unpredictability of products and lenders has been a test of patience, with deals sometimes disappearing quicker than a half-price pint on a Friday night.

To navigate this, I’ve embraced digital tools to simplify admin and free up time for what matters most—personal client relationships. I’ve also focused on educating clients, empowering them to make informed decisions rather than clinging to unrealistic expectations of “those good old days” of low rates.

The biggest win? Strengthening trust with clients and securing referrals, proving that reliability and transparency are more valuable than ever.
