I don’t expect dramatic surprises, but I do expect a strong focus on fiscal discipline and targeted growth measures. With inflation stabilising and rates expected to ease, the government will likely want to reinforce economic confidence without overcommitting. From a financial planning perspective, stability is more valuable than headlines. Businesses and households need predictability to plan properly. What I’d like to see is support that genuinely improves productivity and housing mobility, whether through planning reform or incentives that help first-time buyers sustainably, not just short term boosts.Ultimately, the Spring Statement should prioritise confidence and clarity. Markets can handle tough news. What they struggle with is uncertainty.Short term fixes create noise, but structural clarity builds confidence. Households, investors and businesses don’t need constant intervention they need a predictable framework that allows them to plan, invest and move forward with conviction.

The government is purposefully going to keep this low-key: so expect mostly reassurance rather than revelations. It'll be optimistic statements designed to rally business and market confidence and prove that the government's focus on stability is working.

We're highly unlikely to see major policy changes. That said, I think there's an outside chance we may hear an announcement on making student loan repayments more fair. The government is under increasing pressure to do something about the graduate debt problem and this would be an opportune moment to show they're listening.
