If the complications and delays in buying and selling houses involving searches, enquiries, mortgage finance, contract documents etc were not enough, the overzealous, tinfoil government of Wales now wants to introduce property purchase contracts in Welsh. I am not Welsh and have no dog in this fight, but come to think of it. You will now need to do all your searches and enquiries in Welsh, sign mortgage deeds in Welsh, and have statements and documents in Welsh. This is all going to require massive upheaval and will increase the workload for law firms that are already struggling to keep up with the demands of our archaic conveyancing system. And what if you didn't speak Welsh? You would need official, certified translations of course.

Notwithstanding the Welsh pride, the decision should be reconsidered in light of the practical work involved. Conveyancing in the English language has been established for centuries, and it is there for a reason.
