Violent crime expert to comment on hotspots in Great Britain
I’m working on maps which show violent and sexual crime rates per 1,000 pop in 2024 by LSOA (a neighbourhood of 500-1,500 people), and the worst neighbourhood for violent crime in the whole country is the area which includes Birmingham New Street Station.
The crime rate for the LSOA code is E08000025 is 1,441 per 1,000 population (total crime of 1,782, which is the 2nd highest total) from Jan to Dec 24.
I’ve put the top 20 areas in a table you can look at here: https://public.flourish.studio/visualisation/21611644/
If you want to look at the map you can here, you just select by police force: https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/html_modules/2025/02_FEB/250204_crime_maps.html
I was wondering if you could provide some insight into why the high crime areas such as Birmingham New Street are so bad.
