"Trump Trade" Bitcoin near all-time high

ended 30. October 2024

Bitcoin surged yesterday close to its ATH of almost $74,000, passing $73,500. Experts believe the original cryptocurrency is rallying on expectations of a Trump win, as the former President is a crypto believer. If Trump wins, could Bitcoin smash through its ATH and which other cryprocurrencies could outperform? For example, Dogecoin, the meme coin favoured by Elon Musk who may head up Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, also shot up yesterday. Any thoughts, send them across. If you believe Trump's going to pull it off, is crypto worth a punt? If so, which are the coins to go for?

As crypto markets eye a Republican victory, investors are flocking to Bitcoin in a digital gold rush, however, in the world of crypto, what goes up often comes crashing down with equal velocity. The current flirtation with all-time highs can be attributed to several factors, with its proponents arguing that it is an attractive hedge against inflation and a store of value in times of economic uncertainty due to its independence from central banks and government fiscal policy. Furthermore, a Trump presidency is anticipated to create a more favourable regulatory environment, potentially driving renewed institutional demand. However, at these peak levels although the potential for significant gains exists, so too do substantial risks. Bitcoin's price can fluctuate dramatically based on public figures' comments or market sentiment, functioning more as a speculative asset, so investors should not ignore the market's elevated volatility and the heightened risk of election-driven trading.

Bitcoin has rallied over the last week after 6 months of choppy price action following the introduction of Bitcoin spot ETF's. Yesterday we saw Bitcoin prices surge past $73,500 on what is believed to be the "Trump Trade", we are also seeing crypto and mining stocks rise and some altcoins, namely Dogecoin and Solana have been showing a lot of strength recently. My personal belief is that irrespective of who wins the election, we will probably see a small sell-off on the result, and then see the markets continue to go up until the inauguration, that would be my next point of reassessment. It does seem Trump will be a more crypto-friendly President, however, it seems the Democrats are also waking up to the reality that the crypto vote is an important one and maybe more lenient from a policy perspective towards crypto.
