Sometimes HR goes too far

ended 12. December 2025

A journalist at The Daily Telegraph is writing a feature on how workplaces approach Christmas - including why some organisations now refer to it as the “winter season” and how many are making a conscious effort to create more inclusive celebrations.

She already has commentary from an HR expert on inclusive workplace policies, specifically discussing the growing move to make Christmas festivities more inclusive and the reasons behind this shift.

Now she's looking for an HR expert to say HR sometimes goes too far - similar to this quote below...

“It’s not to say I don’t want employees to be well or workplaces to be inclusive,” says Inji Duducu, a senior HR director for a high street retailer, who has nearly 30 years’ experience in the industry, told the Telegraph a few months ago. “But it has moved beyond a kind of commercial business sense.”

“HR as a function has always been quite susceptible to fashions and trends,” she adds. “[But] suddenly we see organisations pursuing things almost because of a moral imperative. They seem to have lost track of why we are actually here.”
