Should Vodafone give customers compensation for its outage?

Journalist: Emily Mee, The Sun

ended 14. October 2025

I'm a Consumer Reporter for The Sun putting a piece together on whether Vodafone will issue compensation for the major outage yesterday - https://www.thesun.co.uk/money/36989720/vodafone-broadband-down-thousands-internet-access/

Would be great to get some expert comment on consumer rights/whether people should be given compensation and what they can do. Thanks!

As a PR exercise, Vodafone should stump up some generous redress for their outage yesterday, as some businesses were severely affected. In reality money will talk, and compensation will be limited to the statutory minimums or whatever your contract dictates. After such an event, Vodafone’s PR team should jump on this to show they care. With their competitors like BT offering such shocking service they could turn lemon into lemonade and steal some customers with outstanding service.

Losing all connectivity leaves me completely apoplectic with rage. It’s happened to me countless times with EE, and if Vodafone compensating customers sets a precedent, I’ll be cheering them on from my offline sofa.
