Seeking comment: GLP-1 weight-loss injections and travel insurance

Journalist: Aaliyah Ahmed, The Times

ended 10. August 2026

I’m looking for an independent insurance, legal or medical expert to comment on whether people taking GLP-1 weight-loss medications such as Wegovy and Mounjaro need to declare them when taking out travel insurance.

Travel insurer Staysure has warned that people could face significant financial consequences if they fail to disclose their medication and later need medical treatment abroad. Its analysis found that GLP-1 medications were declared in just 0.06% of its travel insurance quotes over the past 30 months.

I’m particularly interested in expert views on what travellers are actually required to disclose, whether failing to declare a prescribed GLP-1 could affect a claim, and whether the medication itself or the underlying condition being treated is relevant to insurers.

This is for a money story for The Times. Please get in touch if you have relevant expertise and can provide comment on the record.
