Rise in landlords seeking advice on succession planning

ended 01. December 2024

A broker on Newspage has said he has seen a material increase in the number of landlords who bought in the nineties or noughties seeking advice this year around succession planning for their portfolios — as they are now in their sixties or seventies and want to get things in order. Are you seeing a similar increase in landlords, either amateur or professional, wanting to pass down their properties as tax-efficiently as possible to their children? And how are they doing so? Clearly there are lots of scenarios, as some family members may not want to have anything to do with the portfolio, other landlords may have several children, and many landlords will have a large mixed portfolio of properties in an SPV — and they may make their children shareholders. Any insights or case studies (anoymous fine), send them across. This is for a national newspaper article next week.
