Pros and cons of funding your child's university studies

I am after views from parenting experts, psychologists etc on the pros and cons of supporting your child financially while at university.

This is for a Daily Telegraph article.

E.g. is there a risk of making a child too reliant on their parents and will they fail to learn to be independent or is it too early to cut the purse strings.

Also, how do people budget if they have more than one child at university?
