Pensioners to get £2.4bn tax break - Conservatives

ended 28. May 2024

In an attempt to win the ‘grey vote’ and prevent those receiving the basic state pension from becoming liable for income tax, the Prime Minister is today expected to announce a £2.4bn tax cut for pensioners by unfreezing the personal allowance. Lots about it has been written online (it was announced overnight) but any thoughts, send them across ASAP and we will issue to the media at 9am.

If those making the promises had the capacity or capability to fulfill them this would be great news for pensioners. However, they have probably left out that those wishing to take advantage of this will have to do national service and need to get their grandparents to sign the forms. If it was that simple, they would have done it already.
