Newspage: from Monday, things get personal
On Monday, some big changes are happening at Newspage as we switch the entire platform to personal profiles and launch the first version of our mobile app to Platinum subscribers. The mobile app will enable Newspagers to ‘pitch’ and discuss story ideas on any subject, rate the newsworthiness of stories pitched by their peers and get push notifications on their phones when News Alerts (many created from ‘pitches’ that receive enough upvotes on the mobile app) are sent. They'll also be able to submit comments to News Alerts through the more robust mobile app environment and, in mid-November, be able to respond to News Alerts in video format.
Why are we doing this?
When we first launched Newspage, it was structured for business and charity owners. You created a Newspage for your company or charity and then added yourself (and in many cases others) as Experts. From Monday, everyone on Newspage will have their own personal Newspage. The company or charity you work for or own will still appear when you respond to News Alerts, but it will be your individual Newspage that you respond from. We’re doing this as we will be opening the platform up to everyone, everywhere and launching in the US. After all, anyone, anywhere can have a news story and news stories are our currency. We’ll be sending a full Q&A across on Sunday as there will be lots of changes.
What do you need to do?
If you’re the only ‘Expert’ on your current company or charity Newspage, nothing at all. All existing company or charity Newspages will be automatically changed to personal Newspages. You’ll be able to log in as usual but things will look a bit different. You’ll work it out and we’ll be here to support you with any issues or dramas!
However, if your Newspage has multiple Experts, all of you will receive an email to activate your personal Newspage. Simply set up a password to continue.
Platinum Power-up
If you have multiple Experts and your Newspage is Platinum before midday on Monday, all the Experts will have their personal Platinum Newspage subscriptions paid for by your current single subscription, saving potentially hundreds of pounds a month. So start adding Experts between now and Monday — it's on us!
If anyone in your company or charity joins Newspage after midday on Monday, they will have to pay for their own subscription if they want to upgrade (although they can remain free, of course).
We will be in touch on Sunday with the full Q&A. This is just a heads-up of the changes that are coming. Will it be seamless? Unlikely. Will we lose hair? Certainly (not that we have much). Will it be fun — and will we reinvent the news? Definitely.
