ended 31. March 2023

Moneyweek journalist is after some quick comments and insights from investment analysts, fund houses, fund managers, ESG experts, etc. on what the Gov's new energy strategy means for retail investors.

He is hoping for answers to some/all of the Qs below:

- What investment areas are set to benefit, and why?
- Does the announcement increase the attractiveness of UK energy stocks?
- Who are the winners and losers from the announcement?
- Have retail investors previously shied away from UK energy/infrastructure? Will this new policy change that at all?
- What options are available to retail investors looking to invest in the UK energy space?
- Any other factors investors need to think about?

The focus of the energy strategy will be disappointing to climate activists as not enough focus was on renewables, however carbon capture is in focus and big energy stocks will benefit from the investment in this sector.

We are portfolio landlords that pay energy bills for our tenants as we run a lot of house shares. So this government's energy strategy and it's cost matter significantly to us.

Any government strategy that brings long term costs down and reduces energy waste is going to be hugely welcomed by the landlord community. However, the government needs to be careful not to break the backs of small landlords that are putting in their time, personal money and effort into making the country more energy efficient, one rental property at a time.
