Looking to speak to mortgage brokers about proposed plans on energy bills.

  1. Does the energy price cap of £2,500 for the typical household over the past two years go far enough?
  2. Does the help for businesses go far enough?
  3. What other measures should Truss make?

Households cannot afford their energy bills at present, let alone with another £600 per year on top. This is the equivalent of your mortgage interest rate going up by 0.25% on a £250,000 loan. Factor in rising rates, and households are getting clobbered. The prices should have been frozen at their current levels. Businesses will have some relief, but six months is nothing and businesses crave certainty. More could have been done here too, and I am disappointed in the new chancellor, but not surprised.

This will not prevent millions from going into fuel poverty this winter, and does very little to help the elderly, poor and disabled many can't afford their current utilities never mind and increase masked as a CAP to help us; the help for businesses was an afterthought six months just delays the inevitable for many small businesses that will be forced to close I spoke to one today who have served notice to staff as they increase means they will no longer be able to stay and this will be the picture for many going forward.
